[ S T A T E M E N T ]

I enjoy the essences of things in life. In my work I try to capture those essences rather than their literal representation. I also like suspending an image rather than fixing it in too tightly. Most importantly I like lots of room to breathe in a work.

Picasso said that painting is like keeping a diary. I know that to me each painting is a record, and each one is different from start to finish as each day is different.

I believe that there is no one time in making paintings that I can say it is done, rather it is a life- long process of trying to get it right - - of trying to get to the expression.

There are, however, certain periods of summing-up that complete small circles within larger ones. That is what this body of work represents to me - - a completion of a small circle.

I am hopeful that those thoughts that I am inept at saying verbally show up somewhere in my paintings.
