[ S T A T E M E N T ]

My work has been influenced by color field and geometric abstraction. Unlike narrative driven art my focus is on form and color relationships to fashion a singular visual experience.

Physically these painting are composed from panels of plywood with multiple layers of acrylic gesso and house and oil paint. They often include a ground of collage newsprint or areas of paint reduced by sanding which give a tangible sense of actual physical existence. These parts a placed in conjunction to form the completed structure. The joined segments can be simpatico or incongruous. Compositions can be determined in advance or be completely serendipitous. In some pieces a pattern is used as an all over motif in contradiction to a painterly section. I see my painting as self referential they are only what they appear to be.
