[ B I O G R A P H Y ]

I graduated from the University of Utah in Art in 1949 (very academic, traditional style). Went to New York City and enrolled at the Art Students League. Visiting museums and galleries I felt the excitement and the challenge of the current movements in painting. Hans Hoffman, Wilhelm de Kooning, Franz Kline were all around, at work in the city. Got turned on to non-objective painting and still am.

Relationships of color, shapes and edges in a work can take you somewhere else suddenly and simply. I like connections. I love to pick up items on the edge of life and let them percolate down, use what I catch from the corner of my eye or from a tune I hear. I like to just look at my paintings and travel around.

My paintings solve no problem, they make no statement, and there is no intrusion by them on the viewer. I work with color, shape and line until I find the painting comfortable to look at, to muse upon. Relationships of color, shapes and edges as a celebration of the momentary ordering of the unknown.
