Springville Museum

Simone Simonian studied under Alvin Gittins, Doug Snow and Tony Smith. He gained his solid understanding of light, form and structure from Gittins’ instruction on studying the human form. He continued to develop as an artist after graduating by securing a studio space at Guthrie Studios in Salt Lake City and taking workshops from well-known teachers such as Daniel Greene and Paul Davis. He continues his studies today by regularly attending workshops whenever possible. A regular exhibitor at Phillips Gallery since 2012, Simonian’s work has also been exhibited at the Springville Museum and Spring City Art Auctions. His paintings can be found in the permanent collections of the Utah Museum of Fine Arts and the Salt Lake County Arts Collection. His portraits of Aziz and Lola Atiya hang in the University of Utah Humanities Building.

Artist Statement
In this collection, I wanted to explore various subjects within the realm of still-life and landscape. This offered pathways to explore color harmonies, textural variation, places and objects that evoke imagination and curiosity. The collection includes Japanese dolls, indigenous wearable art and idyllic landscapes that connect to our senses and suggest serenity and peace.
