Steve Dayton was born in Idaho and raised in California. He has lived in New Mexico, Germany, and California. He currently resides in Salt Lake City Utah.
After earning Associate and BFA degrees in Graphic Design at Ricks College and BYU, he worked for 30+ years as a designer and production artist. Since retiring in 2013, he has been concentrating on furthering his art career.
Dayton began working on his assemblage work in the late 80s while living in West Sacramento, California before moving to Utah in 1989. He has also explored working with silkscreen printing, etching, small sculpture, abstract acrylic painting, cut and pasted paper, and mixed media experiments, and has shown his art in galleries in Utah, Colorado, and California. He has participated in numerous shows including two temporary public art sculptures in Salt Lake City.
The second bedroom of the condo he and his wife live in serves as his studio. When the weather warms up he works on the balcony and occasionally the dining area table and floor are utilized when working on larger pieces.
