Teresa Jordan is an artist and author whose work is inspired by animals and the natural world. Raised on an isolated ranch in Wyoming and educated in the East, the desire to help bridge the urban-rural divide has influenced much of her work, including her memoir, Riding the White Horse Home. More recently, she has turned her attention increasingly to art, beginning with two illustrated journals, Field Notes from the Grand Canyon: Raging River, Quiet Mind and Field Notes from Yosemite: Apprentice to Place. She illustrated and provided cover art for her most recent book, The Year of Living Virtuously, Weekends Off, which won the Utah Book Award, the Eric Hoffer Grand Prize, and the DaVinci Eye Award for cover art. During the pandemic, she created a series, “My Year of Birds,” for which she painted a bird every day for 365 consecutive days. During the same time, she began training for hospital chaplaincy, and finds resonance between the quiet attention required by each bird and the deep listening at the core of contemplative care.
