ABOUT PHILLIPS

History:

Phillips Gallery is the oldest commercial gallery (over 60 years!) in the Intermountain West. The gallery opened its doors in 1965 in the 9th and 9th area of Salt Lake City before relocating to its current location along 200 South. Bonnie and Denis lived in the space above the gallery at 200 South for years before renovating it into the third story of the gallery that we know today. Phillips Gallery was established just one year after Bonnie and Denis met each other. Some that inaugurated their stable of artists include Don Shepherd, Tony Smith, Earl Jones, Don Olson, Lee Deffebach and Larry Elsner. “We had such great shows!” - says Bonnie. That wasn’t all; Phillips Gallery also hosted poetry readings and a film series!

Representation & Dedication:

We represent artists working in a variety of media including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, ceramics, printmaking, jewelry, and mixed media. Our artists are primarily from Utah or the surrounding area. Phillips Gallery also represents national and international artists who have an association with Utah. You will discover a full range of subject matter from traditional to contemporary.

The gallery is also available to do custom framing, installation, crating/shipping, space planning, lighting consultation, as well as consulting for private and corporate collections.

Art is an integral part of life experiences and Phillips Gallery is dedicated to a growing awareness in the visual arts of our community. We work diligently to extend the exposure of each artist we represent and meet our individual clients needs.

Denis' Studio:

Behind the main gallery building, through a courtyard, is the studio formerly used by Denis Phillips. He created many of his masterpieces in this space. Although Denis passed away in early 2024, his memory and creative spirit live on at Phillips Gallery. Denis’ studio is now open during buisnes hours, and is an extention of the main gallery.
