Oonju Chun was born and raised in South Korea. She immigrated to the US as a teenager and later received a BFA from University of Utah where she studied under Douglas Snow, Paul Davis and Sam Wilson. She did not paint while raising her two children, in a suburb of Washington D.C. At the age of 51, she returned to Salt Lake City and started to paint with full force.

Chun’s work is in the Utah State Permanent Collection and numerous private collections throughout the US. She did an artist residency at Maynard Dixon's home and studio in Mt. Carmel, Utah at the invitation of Thunderbird Foundation in 2011. In 2012 she received an Honorable Mention at Bountiful Davis Art Center's Statewide Competition and in 2014 she received a 2nd Place Juror’s Award at Springville Museum’s Spring Salon. She has had numerous solo and group exhibitions.

Chun now lives in Eden, Utah and has a home studio where she paints every day after a walk with her Malamute on the hill behind her home.
